And it will be an all-Waldo County affair.

The Midcoast Babe Ruth League baseball semifinal playoffs are in the books with the two northernmost squads among the original nine remaining with an opportunity to claim the coveted championship crown.

And, as fate would have it, they were the top two seeds during the regular season.

Top-ranked Waldo County of Searsport (12-1) advanced to the title game with an 11-2 win over No. 4 Rockport (6-6), while No. 2 Swan Lake Grocery of Belfast (11-2) took advantage of several errors by No. 3 Rockland Café (8-5) and advanced with a 14-10 victory in a pair of Monday, July 14 semifinal playoff contests.

Thus, Waldo County and Swan Lake Grocery will play for the league championship on Wednesday, July 16 at 5 p.m at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro, weather permitting. A rain out would move the game to Thursday, July 17 at the same site and time.

Waldo County went 2-0 against Swan Lake Grocery this season as it won 11-10 in eight innings June 29 in Belfast and 13-5 June 15 in Searsport.

Waldo County defeated No. 9 Camden 11-1 in the quarterfinals, while Swan Lake Grocery bested No. 7 Damariscotta Lions 10-4 in the same round.

Waldo County won the league crown last year.

No. 1 Waldo County 11, No. 4 Rockport 2

At Searsport July 14, Waldo County benefited from a six-run third inning, which would be all the offense it needed in its win over Rockport. Waldo County also scored one in the second and two in the fourth and sixth innings, while Rockport scored one in the first and one in the second.

Leading the Waldo County offense were Barrett Grant (double, single, 2 RBIs, 2 runs, stolen base), Brandon Smith (double, single, run, stolen base), Cole Frey (2 singles, 2 RBIs, run), Emmett Shell (2 singles, RBI, 2 runs, stolen base), Colby Furrow (single, RBI, run), Evan Thomas (single, RBI), Max Thomas (single, RBI), Kyle Moore (RBI, run), Mitchell Philbrook (2 runs, stolen base) and Liam Cail (run).

For Rockport, Jack Poutasse (double, RBI), Nick Denny (single, run), Jesse Fraser (single, run), Cam Gushee (single, stolen base), Brandon Debrosky (single) and Spencer Johndro (single) paced the offense.

Lucas Boetsch and Fraser pitched for Rockport, allowing 11 hits and two walks, with two strikeouts. Smith, Furrow and Grant pitched for Waldo County, allowing six hits and three walks, with nine strikeouts.

No. 2 Swan Lake Grocery 14, No. 3 Rockland Café 10

At Belfast July 14, both squads rapped 10 hits, but Swan Lake Grocery made the most of all nine of Rockland Café's errors in the field and advanced to the championship game.

Swan Lake Grocery, which committed two errors, scored three runs in the first, six in the second, one in the third, fourth and fifth frames and two in the sixth. Rockland Café tallied three in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.

For Swan Lake, Peter Spectre and Grey Dinsmore split time on the mound, as the duo combined to allow 10 hits and two walks, with 12 strikeouts. Jack Freeman, Uriah Thongsaphophone and Coby Dorr combined to allow 10 hits, six walks and one hit batter, with two strikeouts, for Rockland Café.

Leading Swan Lake Grocery at the plate were Lucien Gordley-Smith (double), Garrett Hamlin (double, single), Spectre (2 singles), Zach Dyer (2 singles), Dinsmore (single) and Rick Wyman (single).

For Rockland Café, Mitchell Del Frate (2 doubles), Sam Townsend (double), Thongsaphophone (double), Anthony Moore (2 singles), Titus Kaewthong (single), Kirt Ilvonen (single), Connor Harvey (single) and Logan Sheridan (single) paced the offense.
