Maine Pro Musica Orchestra, Maine’s newest professional orchestra, has had a busy spring and summer so far this year. In June, MPM and Everyman Repertory Theatre joined forces to perform Stravinsky’s “L’Histoire du Soldat” at Pascal Hall. This piece, which combines dancers, actors, narrator and musicians, was a sell-out success.

On Wednesday, July 23, Maine Pro Musica will perform at the Boothbay Opera House featuring music of Bach, Dvorak and Mozart.  Violinists Josie and Sophie Davis, two young, talented sisters from Waldoboro and current students at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, will perform the Bach Double Concerto. In the fall, MPM is planning a free performance of “Peter and the Wolf” for local elementary students. Sponsors for this event and activities include Camden National Bank and United Mid- Coast Charities; fundraising is underway. With a narrated story and wonderful music, “Peter and the Wolf” is the perfect piece to introduce young people to the instruments of the orchestra. Other activities include a petting zoo and master classes taught by MPM musicians for high school students.
