Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings weekly at the summer time of 7 p.m. in the community room of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1.

The July movies celebrate the cinematic collaborations of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. Next up, July 18, is “Pat and Mike” (1952, USA), a nonrated film than runs 95 minutes. Tracy and Hepburn go at it again in this warm, Damon Runyon-style tale of pros and promoters. The world of sports provides the arena for this sparring match, which features a host of real-life tennis and golf personalities — as well as showcasing Hepburn’s athletic abilities. The sparkling script, written by Ruth Gordon and Garson Kanin, is directed by Academy Award winner George Cukor.

This month’s series will conclude July 25 with “Desk Set” (1952, USA). Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Light refreshments will be served.

The Thomaston Academy building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
