The Midcoast is home to several celebrity chefs and one of them is headed to the nation’s living rooms via NBC-TV. Michele Ragussis, who helms The Pearl on the city's public landing during the summer, will appear in the Tuesday, July 22, premiere of “Food Fighters,” hosted by Adam Richman (“Man Vs. Food,” “Fandemonium”).

The series aims to take culinary sparring to an exciting new level — familiar territory for Ragussis, who has competed on “Chopped,” “24 Hour Restaurant Battle,” “Food Network Star” and “Beat Bobby Flay.” The eight-episode series also will feature chefs Cat Cora, Lorena Garcia, G. Garvin, Duff Goldman, Elizabeth Falkner and Jet Tila.

In “Food Fighters,” top-notch amateur home cooks, armed with recipes for their best signature dishes, square off against expert chefs, who will have to cook the same dish.  The completed dishes will be sampled in a blind taste test by culinary judges known as The Dinner Party. After the two competing dishes are tested, the verdict determining the winner is given to the host. If the home cook wins, he or she earns a cash prize. Even if they don’t win, they still get to face off again against another culinary expert, climbing a money ladder with increasing cash prizes for every professional chef they knock out.

The contestants vying to win up to $100,000 in each episode include a high school biology teacher from New Jersey, a U.S. Army Operations NCO and father of seven from Virginia and a stay-at-home mom and mother of three from California. “Food Fighters” will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. For more information, visit
