Police in Knox and Waldo County are searching for a resident of the Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center who left the facility without permission on the evening of July 10.

A team of investigators is looking for 23-year-old Tyler Malmstrom, who left the recreational yard of the reentry center shortly before 9 p.m., according to a news release from Waldo County Sheriff Scott Story.

Malmstrom was completing the final five months of a sentence for his involvement in a bar fight incident that occurred in Knox County, the news release states.

As of Tuesday, July 15, Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the sheriff's office said detectives are continuing their search for Malmstrom and there are no new developments in the case to report.

He is not believed to be armed and dangerous and police do not believe he is a threat to the community. However, anyone who has seen Malmstrom or knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact local law enforcement.

Police said Malmstrom left a note apologizing to the staff of the sheriff's offices in Knox and Waldo County, as well as to court staff and his family for his actions.

Malmstrom is described as a white male approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about Malmstrom's whereabouts is asked to contact the Waldo County Sheriff's Office at 338-6786 or the Knox County Sheriff's Office at 594-0429.
