Working with both LifeFlight of Maine and the organizing committee of the Penobscot Bay Rendezvous, Bangor Savings Bank has pledged significant support to critical care transport in Maine.

In addition, as an Admiral Sponsor of the Rendezvous, Bangor Savings is supporting the event’s effort to promote individual giving to LifeFlight. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Maine’s only emergency medical helicopter service.

“Bangor Savings Bank’s donation and sponsorship is a prime example of philanthropic leadership,” said Shane Flynn, co-founder with Cabot Lyman of the four-day sail and power event, in a news release. “Their sponsorship enables us to produce a first-rate event which in turn will raise awareness about the services and needs of LifeFlight of Maine. We are pleased to do our part by introducing Bangor Savings Bank and LifeFlight to the yachting community during our regatta.”

LifeFlight of Maine is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations from individuals, corporations and foundations to purchase new aircraft and specialized equipment, and provide advanced training to the state’s emergency medical services community. Support from local community groups like the Penobscot Bay Rendezvous enables LifeFlight to purchase lifesaving equipment like handheld blood analysis tools, vital sign monitors, cardiac balloon pumps, video laryngoscopes and mobile ultrasound machines.

With this specialized medical equipment, LifeFlight can provide a higher level of care for a wide range of extremely sick patients, from newborns to the elderly. For example, handheld laboratories (iStats) allow the crew to immediately analyze a patient’s blood to determine appropriate medication dosage or ventilator settings. Video laryngoscopes vastly improve the safety and reliability of placing a breathing tube in critically injured patients. Mobile ultrasound technology helps to accurately assess and properly diagnose severely injured patients with internal bleeding or damaged lungs.

“Bangor Savings Bank is pleased to provide support to the Penobscot Bay Rendezvous and LifeFlight of Maine. We view this sponsorship as a ‘win-win’ for the partner organizations involved. The bank and other event sponsors are able to come together to put on a first-class event with the organizing committee of the Penobscot Bay Rendezvous while providing substantial support and awareness to LifeFlight of Maine, which provides critical care and medical support for Mainers when needed”, said Bob Montgomery-Rice, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Bangor Savings Bank.

The Fourth annual Penobscot Bay Rendezvous will be held Aug. 14-17. All proceeds will go to LifeFlight of Maine. Last year, 55 sail and powerboats gathered for the four-night, three-day event co-hosted by Wayfarer Marine and Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding. For more information:
