Union Area Chamber of Commerce’s Now Famous Pie Social will kick off Founders Day weekend with musical entertainment by The Press Gang Friday, July 18, beginning 5:30 p.m. on the Union Common.

Everyone is invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy an evening picnic with music on the Union Common. Chamber members will be serving fresh grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, but saving room for dessert is a must. An extensive assortment of fresh, homebaked pies donated by local bakers will include mouth-watering favorites such as chocolate cream, peanut butter, banana cream as well as classics blueberry, rhubarb and apple, to name just a few.

The Press Gang is a trio of Maine musicians who blend their talents and fluency in traditional Irish music with their aptitude for other musical genres. The result is distinctive, a generous helping of Irish tunes spiced with Appalachian music and original compositions.

The chamber’s annual Now Famous Pie Social is sponsored by The Common Market of Union. Proceeds from the sale of pies supports the Union Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship fund, and the public and chamber members  are invited to help by baking and donating a pie of choice; bring pies to the Common at 4:30 p.m. during set-up or drop it off at The Common Market any time Friday.

The Union Area Chamber of Commerce’s mission is to form a solid bond between members, to increase consumers’ awareness of the businesses in the Chamber area and to contribute to its communities. Currently, the Chamber has more than 100 members drawn from inland Midcoast towns.
