Thomaston Public Library will host a Saltwater Film Society screening of 1998's “The Big Lebowski” Thursday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m. The library is housed in the Thomaston Academy building, 60 Main St./Route 1. Parking and the library entrance are at the rear of the building.

Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski is the ultimate LA slacker until one day his house is broken into and his rug defiled by two angry gangsters who have mistaken him for Jeffrey Lebowski, the LA millionaire, whose wife owes some bad people some big money. The Dude goes to visit the real Lebowski in order to get some retribution for his soiled rug and is recruited to be the liaison between Lebowski and the captors of his now "kidnapped" wife.

“The Big Lebowski,” directed by Ethan and Joel Coen (“O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and “Fargo,” among others), stars Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Julianne Moore, along with a quirky supporting cast. For more information about the Saltwater Film Society, visit
