Maine Media Gallery will open “A Maine Media Legacy,” the 2014 scholarship fundraiser exhibition, Tuesday, July 8, to run through Aug. 2. The public is invited to an opening reception Saturday, July 12, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the gallery, 18 Central St.

Last year, Maine Media Gallery mounted “Focus on Faculty,” an exhibition honoring Maine Media’s 40th anniversary. The show consisted of prints that were generously donated by Maine Media faculty members. This year, the exhibition will feature not only work of Maine Media’s extraordinarily talented faculty, but also work by its accomplished alumni. Featured artists include faculty Craig Stevens, Andrea Modica and Jim Nickelson; and alumni Jon Edwards, Ni Rong and Sujata Khanna, as well as many others who have graciously donated work for the Scholarship Fund.

The Scholarship Fund is an essential resource for Maine Media students, lessening the financial burden and allowing a stellar education in photography, filmmaking, design and book arts. This fund makes it possible for students around the world to attend the workshops, long-term and college programs; and become a part of our growing community of alumni and friends.

Maine Media Gallery hours are weekdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Maine Media Gallery also houses Tim Whelan’s bookstore, a nationally recognized bookstore for its impressive collection of fine art photography books.
