Three brothers enlisted in Navy

ROCKLAND — Three Rockland brothers are all enlisted in the Navy.

Justin Gauthier, son of Steve and Ruth Jarrett and Craig and Dawn Gauthier, recently promoted to Petty Officer First Class, Yeoman; Eathan Jarrett, son of Steve and Ruth Jarrett, Petty Officer Second Class, Master-of-Arms, and Trenton Jarrett, son of Steve and Ruth Jarrett, recently enlisted in the Navy and is now at boot camp in Great Lakes, Ill. Justin Gauthier and Eathan Jarrett are graduates of Rockland District High School and Trenton Jarrett is a graduate of Oceanside High School.

Bikes for Books at Waldoboro Public Library

WALDOBORO — The Bikes for Books program is now under way at the Waldoboro Public Library, and new readers are welcome to join in.

This program is sponsored by the King Solomon's Lodge of Masons of Waldoboro, with the bikes donated by the Downeast School of Massage, the Waldoboro Sno-Crawlers Club, Hillside Auto Body, and Lou Abbotoni, CPA.

For every five picture books or two chapter books read, the reader gets a raffle ticket toward winning a new bike. There are six prize bikes: three boy and three girl styles, in sizes 16-, 20-, and 24-inch, and all bikes come with helmets. The drawing will be Aug. 16. For more information, call 832-4484 or visit

Donations accepted for Legion lawn sale

ROCKLAND — Donations will be accepted the week of July 7 to 11 for an indoor lawn sale planned for the American Legion Post 1 on Limerock St. The sale, which also includes a bake sale and car wash, will be held Saturday, July 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hosted by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1. All donations welcome and can be dropped off the week of July 7-11, please bring big items July 11. Supports auxiliary and veterans activities. Car wash also.

Free workshop on cellphones for children

ROCKLAND — U.S. Cellular is offering free device workshop Wednesday, July 9, fro 7 to 8 p.m. at 725 Main St., Rockland, that focuses on making the decision to get children their first phone. Nature Walk

UNION — On Wednesday, July 9, at 2 p.m. visit Vose Library, 325 Common Road, for a nature walk around the library property led by Brett Willard of Merryspring Nature Center. During the nature walk, participants can expect to identify some small native plants, see some birds, and see butterflies, bees, and other insects. Afterward help make sumac-ade (like lemonade) from sumac berries that line the property. For all ages. This program is free and open to the public. Waldoborough Historical Society

WALDOBORO — The Waldoborough Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at the museum on Route 220, Wednesday, July 9. The meeting will follow a 5:30 p.m. potluck supper in the Barn. All Waldoboro citizens interested in the activities of the society are urged to bring a salad or casserole to share. Utensils, baked beans, dessert are beverage will be supplied. The museum is open every day except Tuesdays, noon to 3 p.m. No admission.

Lincolnville Strawberry Festival

Saturday, July 12, the 20th annual Old fashioned Strawberry Festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lincolnville Community Building on Route 173, at 18 Searsmont Road in Lincolnville Center.

There will be a parade down Main Street at 10 a.m.; strawberry shortcake, family fun, White Elephants, musical entertainment, food, and a Puppet Show at 11 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.. All are welcome.

11th annual Law Enforcement Golf Classic to benefit Trekkers

THOMASTON – Officer Tim Hoppe of the Thomaston Police Department is announcing the 11th annual Law Enforcement Golf Classic, to be held at the Rockland Golf Club Sunday, July 13. Proceeds from the Law Enforcement Golf Classic support local youth organizations in the Midcoast. In keeping with the mission of the event, this year’s 18-hole tournament will benefit the youth programs of the Trekkers organization.

Registration for participants begins at noon, with tee-off at 1 p.m. The individual registration is $80 per player or $300 per foursome. The Law Enforcement Golf Classic will include prizes, food and fun.

Happy Feet benefit July 20

THOMASTON — On the Rush of Wings Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will be holding its 3rd annual "Happy Feet" benefit Sunday, July 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Highlands Coffee House located at 189 Main St., Thomaston. Admission is $25. A live auction highlighting local artists and their work will be the highlight.

OTROW is a non-profit organization that is licensed both by state and federal government. Located in Friendship, the center specializes in the healing and rehabilitating of injured or orphaned seabirds. All proceeds go toward achieving this goal.
