Lee Smith is the third featured author of this summer’s St. George Literary Series Tuesday, July 8, at the Ocean View Grange, 435 Port Clyde Road/Route 131. The free event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception.

A highly entertaining speaker, Smith will read from her latest novel, “Guest on Earth,” which focuses on Zelda Fitzgerald.

“I was fascinated by Zelda’s zaniness, her frank sexuality and utter disregard of custom, as they lived uproariously in hotels and rented rooms in several countries,” she wrote about the book.

Smith is the author of 16 works of fiction including “Fair and Tender Ladies,” “Oral History” and a collection of stories, “Mrs. Darcy and the Blue-Eyed Stranger.” She has received many awards including the North Carolina Award for Literature and an Academy Award in Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her novel “The Last Girls” was a New York Times bestseller, as well as winner of the Southern Book Critics Circle Award.
