The second annual Brian Cramer Memorial 5-Kilometer Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, July 19 at 8 a.m. at the Union Fairgrounds. The event, sponsored by Vose Library for the fourth year, is part of Union Founder’s Day.

Formerly known as the Vose Library Founder’s Day 5K, the race was renamed last year in memory of Brian Cramer, a Union resident who died the previous year. Proceeds from the race will benefit the programs and services of the library.

The 5K run/walk will begin and end at the Union Fairgrounds. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with the race at 8 a.m.. A fun run for children will take place immediately following the 5K race start.

Those wishing to register early may download a race registration form from the Vose Library website at

T-shirts are available to the first 50 who register. Early registration is $15, while race day registration is $18.

Awards will be given to first overall male and female and the first-place finishers in each age group. This year, prizes, unique to the Brian Cramer Memorial, are made by Union Pottery.

The course is a rolling 3.1 miles, on and off road, through the historic Union Common and past the Vose Library before returning to finish at the Union Fairgrounds.

The race is timed to allow race participants to be part of all the Founder’s Day activities, including seeing the parade and enjoying the barbecue.
