AVS News

Another school year has come to a close! I want to thank all the teachers and staff for all their hard work with the children this year. Enjoy your summer!

The first day of school for the 2014/15 school year will be Sept. 2.

The School Committee met on Monday morning, June 9, to approve Susan Stilwell as the new principal of the Appleton Village School. Mrs. Stilwell is currently the principal at both the Thomaston Grammar School and Owls Head School in RSU 13, and has more than 30 years of experience as an educator. She formerly worked at AVS as the technology coordinator and is very excited to be returning to our school as principal. Mrs. Stilwell will be working with retiring Principal Gary Bosk to ensure a smooth transition for the school and community. You will find her to be a passionate educational leader and a strong advocate for students and for all of the many wonderful programs already in place at AVS.

There will be a school committee meeting at AVS June 30 at 6 p.m. to discuss the school budget for the upcoming school year. The budget did not pass June 10, so the school board, budget committee, and the superintendent are working hard to make a new budget to bring to vote. All are welcome to attend the meeting.

This is where you can find the answers to basic questions about Medicare such as: What is Medicare; When and where to sign up for Medicare; What services are covered by Medicare; What is the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit; What is the cost for Medicare; What is Medicare Supplemental Insurance; When can I make changes to my Medicare coverage; And more…..Being prepared could save you a lot of worry (and money).
