Saturday, Aug. 2, will mark the ninth iteration of Paint the Town, the popular outdoor artists' festival — this year, in an exciting new location: the Waldo Theatre, Main Street/Route 220 in the village.

On this prime summer Saturday, artists will meet in the village for an early breakfast before heading out to paint the beauty of Waldoboro-area landscapes, whether the delights of nature or the architectural treasures of the town and its neighbors. In the evening, the artists' work will be displayed in an elegant preview reception followed by a lively “fresh art” auction. Several local nonprofit groups share the work and the benefits of this event, which honors the talent and hard work of the artists who are the heartbeat of our growing creative community.

Artist registration forms for Paint the Town are now available at Tidemark Gallery, 902 Main St.; and Old Number Nine, 9 Friendship St.; and at several other local spots. The form also can be downloaded at They should be mailed or dropped off Tuesdays through Saturdays, between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., to/at Tidemark Gallery, P.O. Box 374, Waldoboro, ME 04572. Other details including starting times for the events will be announced over the coming weeks on the website, in the newspapers and on Facebook.
