The St. Luke Concert Handbell Choir of Gales Ferry, Conn., will present two concerts on the Midcoast. The group will play Wednesday, June 25, at 7 p.m. at Nativity Lutheran Church, 179 Old County Road, Rockport; and Friday, June 27, at 7 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 55 Elm St./Route 1, Camden. The public is invited; donations will be collected to help offset the group’s travel expenses.

The Concert Handbell Choir is one of seven handbell choirs of St. Luke Lutheran Church, and it is comprised entirely of high school students. Their repertoire includes a wide variety of sacred, classical and popular music. The choir performs on five octaves of handbells and five octaves of Melody Chimes.

The handbell program at St. Luke begins in the third and fourth grades, so the concerts’ ringers have five to 10 years’ experience. The choir has a rich performance history, having toured England twice and at venues across the Midwest and Eastern United States. Some of the notable venues the group has played in include the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and EPCOT Center in Orlando, Fla.

In 2009, the choir recorded a CD of Christmas music, “Ring in the Season.” For more information about these two local appearances, call Nativity Lutheran, 594-4665; or First Congregational, 236-4821.
