Midcoast Habitat for Humanity is one of two recipients of a $500 grant from Oceanside High School's Jobs for Maine’s Graduates’ Jumpstart Our Youth program.

The program awarded funds to nominated 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations that benefit kids aged 0 to 18 living in the midcoast.

JMG recently began participating in JOY, a philanthropic initiative sponsored by the Unity Foundation. The initiative serves to teach students about philanthropy in the local community and to train students in the grant-making process. Nonprofit organizations in the Rockland/Thomaston area were first nominated to receive the grant and then submitted applications to the program. Finalists hosted student volunteers to participate in community service learning activities and visited the classroom to participate in experiential-based learning.

Midcoast Habitat is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide and has built 25 homes in the midcoast since 1990. The current build, the Dodd/Cushman home, is located at 9 Pine St. Rockland. The house will be under construction all summer and into the fall and volunteers are welcome.
