The Knox County Substance Abuse Task Force will hold its second meeting Thursday, May 29, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Rockland City Council Chambers, Rockland City Hall, 270 Pleasant St., Rockland.

The goal of the meeting is to review and assess existing resources in Knox County that help reduce substance use/abuse. Kelsey Byrd, Island Institute Fellow, will assist John Sommo, Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist for Knox County Community Health Coalition, the local Healthy Maine Partnership, in leading the meeting.

Byrd and Sommo will work with the group to complete the Health Impact Pyramid. This 5-tier pyramid looks at all factors that affect substance abuse/behavioral health including socioeconomic factors, education and clinical interventions. The result is a framework that communities can use to improve health in the towns where they live, work, play, go to school and worship.

The public is cordially invited and encouraged to attend the meeting. This is an opportunity for community members to come together, share ideas and develop strategies to reduce substance abuse in Knox County. FMI: John Sommo, 236-6313, ext. 3, or
