MidCoast Swings continues its monthly series at High Mountain Hall, 5 Mountain St./Route 52 — this time in conjunction with dance enthusiasts all around the world. The public is invited to a community swing dance featuring music for all swing styles Saturday, May 24, at 7 p.m. The $7 admission includes a free beginners lesson, refreshments and door prizes.

Tunes will include music for West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop, plus a little blues, a little soul and a waltz or two. Note that street shoes are not allowed on this dance floor.

The community dance follows an afternoon of classes focusing on Lindy Hop, the original swing dance. For more information, visit joyfuldancing.com.

Frankie 100 is the centennial celebration of the birth of the late Frankie Manning, one of the most important forces in the development and dissemination of the Lindy Hop. He is credited with many influential and lasting innovations to this truly American art form, including the creation of the Lindy air step and synchronized ensemble Lindy routine, both of which helped catapult the dance from ballroom to stage and screen.
