The Waldoboro Woman’s Club’s Jean Lawrence of Waldoboro was awarded first prize for her short story in the 2014 Literary Competition sponsored by General Federation of Women’s Clubs Maine. The award was presented by GFWC Arts Chairwoman Barbara Hathaway for Lawrence’s story “It’s the Definition That Counts!” May 9 at the Senator Inn.

Lawrence’s work has appeared in the “Goose River Anthology” for the past five years, and she has contributed historical articles to the Lincoln County News. Her books, “Citizens Who Heard the Call to Political Service: Waldoboro, Maine 1773-2010” and “The History of the Waldoboro Fire Department,” are available at the Town Office and the Waldoborough Historical Society’s Museum.
