Our pet picks of the week are Stewie and Triskit, two very sweet, very social cats who are two of our special needs cats who need a home. What makes them special? They are both FIV+. What does that mean? It means they are a carriers for the feline AIDS virus. This may scare off many would-be adopters but it shouldn’t. Feline AIDS is NOT transmissible to people or to dogs. This is not a death sentence and Stewie and Triskit, like other FIV+ cats can live long, happy, healthy lives.

How does a cat get FIV? According to studies, roughly 2.5 percent of cats in the United States are infected with this disease and it is primarily transmitted through penetrating bite wounds, most often occurring in outdoor cats who battle over territory. For that reason, FIV+ cats should be indoors only to prevent the transmission of the disease. Stewie and Triskit are friendly cats not fighters and would much rather follow you around the house than out the door. Stewie loves to talk and Triskit is a cuddler. These two, like all of our wonderful animals, deserve a good home. They need not go home together. Won’t you consider opening up your heart and home to one of these special kitties? During our Cinco de Meow adoption special, which ends Saturday, adult cats, including Stewie and Triskit, will head home for the exceptionally reduced adoption fee of just $5! Wear a sombrero and we'll waive the adoption fee altogether.
