The opening program of the Thomaston Historical Society’s 2014 season will feature a talk on the early and developing education system in Thomaston. From the earliest home classrooms to the first official school building, the evolution of formal education in town has been an important feature of life here.

Local historian Margret McCrea, will deliver a talk that will cover the curriculum and the locations of the various school houses in town, noting the many changes as they progressed through the years.

Her talk will take visitors back in time to a completely different era, one that will surprise and amaze. The presentation will be Tuesday, May 13, at the society’s building at 80 Knox St. Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m., the program will begin promptly at 7:30.

Please remember that it is time to pay annual membership dues. The historical society has an exciting year ahead and this is only the first of many events to be offered in 2014.
