CMCA has held juried biennial exhibitions since 1970. The jurors for the 2014 Biennial were Jennifer Gross, chief curator of the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, Mass.; and Deborah Weisgall, arts and culture writer for The New York Times, The Atlantic, Esquire and The New Yorker. Upon completing their review, Gross and Weisgall noted that "this Biennial grew to encompass work that uses a range of materials in a surprising array of forms." They said the exhibition "offers a sense of what artists working in Maine, many of whom are beginning their careers, are thinking, feeling, and seeing: what has captured their attention — and ours."

The 2014 “CMCA Biennial” exhibition will be on view at CMCA from Sept. 27 through Dec. 7. CMCA’s major media sponsor this year is Maine Home + Design magazine, 2014 major media sponsor. The Center for Maine Contemporary Art is a nonprofit organization advancing contemporary art in Maine through exhibitions and educational programs. The galleries and shop will open for CMCA's 62nd season Saturday, May 24. For more information, visit
