The “Maine Photography Show,” an annual juried gallery show of photography in Maine presented by Boothbay Region Art Foundation, opened to the public April 12, at the BRAF’s downtown gallery at 1 Townsend Avenue. Winners were announced at an invitation-only reception the night before.

More than 300 photographers entered more than 900 images to be juried by Freeman Patterson, a Canadian nature photographer and writer. The photographers represented come from all around the state. Midcoast residents whose work was selected include Suzanne Theodora White of Appleton; Paula B. Cannon, Charles Laurier Dufour and Beth Anne Gordley of Belfast; Yanmei McElhaney of Camden; Kelsie Merrill of Hope; Elena Laustsen and Kathleen Toubman of Rockland; Barb Bausch, Ni Rong and Adam Osgood of Rockport; Paul Bass of Waldoboro; and Nicki Dunbar of Warren.

This year’s Special Theme is Flowers; the general categories are Black and White, Color and Student. The first four places in each category and Best of Show received cash prizes. Several Midcoast entries garnered Honorable Mentions: “Red Claret in the Desert” by Kathleen Toubman of Rockland in the special theme category Flowers; “Vela” by Elena Laustsen of Rockland in the Student category; and a Committee Honorable Mention (Student) went to “Last Train Home” by Yanmei McElhaney of Camden.

The MPS 2014 exhibition runs to May 2. Admission is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. For more information and the complete list of winners, visit
