The Medomak Middle School Science Olympiad Team competed in the state finals at the University of Maine at Orono March 1 and took first place.

This is the second rear in a row Medomak Middle School has brought home the state championship. The team members competed in23  different events covering a wide range of sciences including biology, chemistry, physics and engineering.

The team is now in the process of raising $15,000 needed to travel to Orlando, Fla. to represent the state at the national competition in May.

At the national tournament they will compete against 60 teams including a team from every state and two teams from some of the larger states.

"Having learned last year that the events at the national level are extraordinarily rigorous and challenging, the team is continuing to prepare — working after school, on the weekends and during vacation," said Coach Madelon Kelly in an email.
