Maine author Joan MacCracken will read from her book "The Winter House" Wednesday, Oct. 16, at noon at Jackson Memorial Library, off Main Street/Route 131. The reading is part of the library's monthly Brown Bag Lunch Series.

Dr. MacCracken, a retired pediatrician from Bangor, lives with her husband on the coast. Her involvement with the At Home Downeast project stimulated her to think about folks who prefer to remain in their homes and “age in place.”

"The Winter House A Season of Sharing" transports the reader into the living quarters where four housemates grow in friendship, sharing intimate and sometimes difficult conversations. The main character, Elizabeth Sloan, decides to fulfill her dream of living year-round in a small, coastal Maine town. After considering the long dark winter nights and the inefficiency of heating her large home, she hatches a plan: she will invite three older women to move in with her for the winter.

Books will be available for purchase.  Attendees may bring lunch; beverages and dessert will be provided. For more information, call 372-8961 or visit JacksonMemorialLibrary.org.
