Our pet picks of the week are Clover and Turnpike. Clover is a little spitfire of a Chow/Chi mix. She's just over 6 months old and is very much a puppy. She's active and playful and would benefit from some basic training to learn commands and boundaries. Clover gets along with other dogs but may be a bit too rambunctious around cats and small children. She may be your lucky clover.

Our featured cat this week is Turnpike, a handsome, jet black feline around 3 years old. He's a gregarious cat who enjoys attention and speaking his mind and he sure has a lot to say. If you are looking for a constant companion that can hold up his end of a conversation then you should definitely stop in to meet Turnpike.

Save the date: Our 2014 Pet Calendar will be making its official debut on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Reading Corner in Rockland, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The calendar features beautiful photos of pets from PMHSKC supporters as well as shelter animals that have been adopted. Calendars can be purchased for only $10 and will also be available for purchase at the shelter facility and many local businesses. They make wonderful gifts and 100 percent of the sale of the calendars will go toward helping the homeless animals at PMHSKC get the care they deserve. For more information visit hskcme.org
