The Rock Coast Rollers are gearing up for a derby-filled weekend.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., RCR will be teaming up with Duo’s Fish ’N’ Chips Takeout for Duo’s end-of-season bash.

The celebration will feature the Duo’s menu, set to drive-in dining: each order will be delivered on skates by a Rock Coast Rollers skater. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Hatchet Cove Farm CSA Financial Aid Fund.

Saturday marks its last day open for the 2013 season. Duo’s Fish’N’ Chips is located at 734 Main St. in Rockland.

On Sunday, Oct. 6, the Rock Coast Rollers will host Fresh Meat Tryouts at Point Lookout in Northport. Fresh Meat tryouts, held once a year, provide the league with an opportunity to recruit new skaters and also give those interested in the league a glimpse of what RCR — and roller derby — engenders: community, athleticism, and teamwork. There will be two slots for tryouts: 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Women 18 and older are encouraged to attend, regardless of experience.

The league traveled to Providence in May for the Northeast Derby Convention, they’ve had intra-league bouts (Golden Gales vs. Dreadnaughts) as well as inter-league bouts like the Maine Event Double Header, where they competed against Maine Roller Derby (Portland) and Central Maine Derby (Bangor). In July, they traveled to Moncton, New Brunswick for the Muddy River Murder Tournament, a series of 20-minute bouts among 10 teams, and then to Providence, where RCR’s all-star travel team, The Perfect Storm, competed with Providence Roller Derby’s Killah Bees. They continue their Fall season with bouts in Maine, New York and other states.
