The fall season has arrived, the grape harvest is under way, and Saturday, Oct. 5 Savage Oakes Vineyard and Winery will host its 9th annual Grape Harvest Festival.
Guests are invited to join the picking crew to help harvest the grapes and watch them being crushed and processed. Savage Oakes will be harvesting its Cayuga grapes used to make Georges River White. Picking will begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day until it is done.
At 1 p.m. there will be a presentation by Warren sculptor Jay Sawyer.
At 2:30 p.m. David Spahr will present his talk on mushroom foraging and preparation. Spahr has been foraging mushrooms since 1972 and has written a book, Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms of New England and Eastern Canada. He will cook up some samples of Maine mushrooms. Copies of his book will be available for purchase.
