Penquis RSVP will hold its annual Retired Senior and Volunteer Program Luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elks Club, located at 210 Rankin St., Rockland.

RSVP is America's largest volunteer network engaging adults 55 and older in volunteer service. Its volunteers meet critical community needs while providing the volunteers with an experience that enriches their lives.

"This is when we celebrate the energy, time and talent given by RSVP volunteers in service to Knox, Lincoln and Waldo communities," said Cheryl Feldpausch, RSVP Volunteer Specialist, Penquis, in a news release.

There are approximately 196 volunteers from the three county areas, and many of the volunteers work more than one volunteer job. Certificates of Appreciation will be given to recognize their hours of service at the luncheon.

"It is a small gesture of thanks to our volunteers," said Feldpausch.

Pinny Beebe-Center, regional manager for Penquis, and Audrey Lovering, executive director for Many Flags/ One Community, will be the keynote speakers. "Thriving not Just Surviving" will highlight efforts in the community, including Hospitality House, the homeless shelter, and the excitement and momentum of getting it up and running once again, and the Promise Neighborhoods initiative. Promise Neighborhoods is a joint effort with Penquis and Many Flags/ One Community to integrate community, education and support services for individuals from cradle to career.

Each year this event has various sponsors who also attend the event and share information about their services with the volunteers and contribute give-away items. This year's sponsors include Thomaston Place Auction Galleries, who is inviting attendees to bring a small antique to the luncheon for a free appraisal. Penobscot Bay YMCA will donate a $100 gift certificate for YMCA membership. Rite Aid Pharmacy will share a range of money-saving wellness programs. Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home will offer information on how to honor and remember their loved ones. Beltone New England will offer information to help make the appropriate hearing healthcare decisions. AARP and additional sponsors are expected to join the event as well.

Penquis RSVP seeks partnerships with a variety of organizations in Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties in order to offer volunteer positions that suit many needs and interests. RSVP volunteers can choose the amount of time they wish to give, how and where they wish to serve and whether to draw on their current skills or develop new ones.
