Calico Jack at Sail, Power and Steam

The Sail, Power and Steam Museum will present a concert by Calico Jack Friday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. The music of cruising sailor/songwriter/raconteur Janie Meneely celebrates the people and places of the Chesapeake Bay. She and her partner Paul DiBlasi, who call themselves Calico Jack, captivate audiences with their evocative imagery and spot-on sense of Bay characters and traditions.

Calico Jack’s songs echo the stories of the watermen and their communities and provide glimpses into Bay history and legend. The concert will feature a musical introduction by Gordon Bok. DiBlasi was a long-time performer with the colorful Pyrates Royale, a mainstay of the Maryland Renaissance Festival near Annapolis, Md. His strong guitar work and powerful vocals give voice to much of Meneely’s material, adding a sprinkling of classic work songs and ballads to her mix of originals.
