All are invited to join the fun at the grand reopening of the Jean H. Kislak Community Dog Park and the dedication of the new gazebo at the park on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m.

The dog park is located next to the P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center at 146 Camden St. in Rockport.

Join the P.A.W.S. Board of Trustees, dog park users and friends to thank Jean Kislak for her donation that made the creation of the dog park possible. There will be fun activities for two- and four-footed friends, as well as refreshments.

The new gazebo, designed by Jeff Jackins of Lincolnville and constructed by Rockport Post and Bean and Albertson Builders and Services, was made possible by a challenge grant from an anonymous donor. “We are now looking to raise money to match the challenge grant,” explained P.A.W.S. Board President Jean Freedman-White, adding that “the matching money will be used for new amenities in the park and annual dog park operating expenses.”

“The park opened last December, and it has been a popular place for many dog owners and their four-footed friends. There are cars continually parked at the dog park, whether it is raining, the sun is shining or the ground is covered with snow. Our canine friends wrestle with their buddies, while their owners have a chance to chat with fellow dog owners,” said P.A.W.S. First Vice President John Scholz who has shepherded along the dog park project from its inception.

“While there is a small dog park area as well as an area for larger dogs, I often see little dogs romping with their larger pals. I guess many little dogs think big. What fun it is to see so many different breeds of dogs at the park. Often parents bring their older children and dogs to play together at the park. It has become a place for new residents, visitors to the area, and locals to meet each other, as well as a great exercise and socialization area for our dogs,” said Freedman-White.
