Pen Bay Healthcare has unveiled its 2013-2015 strategic plan, which was created using months of input solicited from community members, medical staff, board members and other stakeholders, combined with extensive research.

The strategic planning process has led to a clear, compelling and shared vision for Pen Bay Healthcare that will serve as a guide for the organization and its partners as we move forward together.

This plan was thoughtfully modeled and developed after the independent, non-profit Institute for Healthcare Improvement's "Triple Aim" framework of improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction), improving the health of populations and reducing the per capita cost of healthcare.

Pen Bay Healthcare's new strategic plan affirms our mission and reflects a shared vision to help our community become one of the healthiest in America. This vision is organized under five priorities.

These will be Pen Bay’s area of focus for the next few years: The Experience, Community Health Improvement, Provider Alignment, Environment & Culture, Quality & Cost of Care

The Experience

We will deliver exceptional service and information to educate, empower, and engage patients, clients, residents, their families and loved ones by: Achieving national top performance in overall experience across the continuum of care, enhancing service excellence.

Community Health Improvement

We will enhance individual and population health by generating, evaluating and integrating knowledge and information to prevent and manage disease and improve overall health by: Improving the health and wellness of the communities we serve.

Provider Alignment

We will work together as partners to address the healthcare needs of our region and embracing the whole patient and family, rather than only treating the disease by: Increasing access to primary and specialty care.

Environment & Culture

We will create and nurture an employer of choice environment of collaboration, communication, transparency, decisiveness, excellence and improving what we do every single day by: Achieving top performance in employee engagement across the MaineHealth system, educating and training employees in the tools and skills needed to create excellence throughout the continuum of care.

Quality & Cost of Care

We will provide our patients, their families and the communities we serve with access to the highest quality, safest healthcare while reducing overall costs by: Improving the quality and cost of care across the Pen Bay Healthcare system, ensuring Pen Bay Healthcare’s financial sustainability.

As we move forward together, achieving the goals within our strategic plan will put Pen Bay on course to be a leader and valued healthcare resource for the Midcoast community.
