Elliot Montgomery, 29, of Friendship was pronounced dead at the scene of an early morning crash in Cushing, according to a press release from Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

Passenger Frederick Ames Jr., 31, also of Friendship was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center by Cushing Rescue with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

At approximately 1:30 a.m this morning, Knox County Sheriff’s Office was called to the single vehicle crash on Cushing Road — Route 97 — near box 204.

The 2003 Dodge pickup truck was traveling south when Montgomery lost control and the truck crashed 160 feet through trees and brush, according to police. The truck rolled many times and landed on its roof. Montgomery was partially ejected from the vehicle, Carrol said.

Evidence at the scene points to speed and alcohol as factors in the crash, Carroll said.

Deputy Matt Elwell is investigating, assisted by Sgt. John Palmer and Deputy John Hansen.

Cushing and Warren fire departments assisted at the scene.
