The Red Hots, a band composed of musicians who met as students in Vermont, will perform their upbeat tunes at the monthly contra dance Saturday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. in the gym of the Thomaston Academy building, Main Street/Route 1.

The band, normally a quartet, will be a trio in Thomaston: Gordon Clark on guitar; Liz Quinn on Irish frame drum (bodhran); and Toben Traver on fiddle. The Red Hots play almost exclusively Irish music, though in good New England fashion it mixes in tunes from other traditions, as well.

Ted Steele of Lincolnville and Pittsburgh, Pa., will teach and call all dances. Beginners are always welcome, and there is no need to bring a partner. Admission is $8 for adults and refreshments are free.

A portion of proceeds benefits the Thomaston Public Library, which sponsors the event. For more information, call Steve Cartwright at 832-5584.
