The Mid-Coast Audubon's annual Monhegan Island fall trip is Saturday, Sept. 28. Monhegan Island is arguably the best location to see migrating songbirds in Maine.
Additionally, if the timing is right, raptors are almost continuously overhead. The boat trip has, on occasion, yielded a variety of seabirds.
Participants should be prepared for some hiking although many of the birds are found right in the village. Reservations on the Monhegan Boat Line (372-8848) out of Port Clyde are a must as, at this time of year, bird clubs from throughout New England sponsor field trips to the island. The trip will depart on the 7 a.m. ferry and return on the 4:30 p.m. ferry. Please call John Weinrich at 563-2930 or Dennis McKenna at 563-8439 for further details.
