Mark Hutchinson of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension will present a free composting workshop Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Lincolnville Community Library.

Hutchinson is the director of the Maine Compost School at Highmoor Farm, a University of Maine research facility in Monmouth. He will discuss the basics of composting such as its biology, methods and systems, ingredients and equipment, site selection and management, and odor control, as well as how to use compost to improve soil health.

Hutchison’s current research and education programs focus on soil health and using compost as a soil amendment for the production of small fruits and vegetables. He has traveled throughout North America teaching communities to compost.

There will be plenty of time for discussion following the talk. The library is located at the corner of Heal Road and Main Street in Lincolnville Center. For more information, email fireweed@tidewater.net.
