The Chebeague Island Jazz Quintet will perform Saturday, Sept. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Velvet Lounge series of Rock City Cafe, 316 Main St.
Chebeague Island features Herb Maine on bass, Mickey Felder on piano, Brent Strombeck on saxes, Jeff Densmore on drums and Mike Whitehead on trumpet and flugelhorn. Their concert at Rock City will feature the music of Maine composer Bill Wetham and also standards from the jazz tradition.
Wetham’s music is exciting and fun to listen to and play, as his approach to melody and harmony expands jazz music in a wonderful way. Response to his music at a recent concert on Chebeague Island was overwhelming.
There is no cover charge, but tipping the musicians is always encouraged. In addition to coffee and desserts, cocktails, beer, wine and dinner are available during the concert. For more information, call 594-4123 or visit Rock City’s Facebook page.
