The Law Offices of Cohen & Cohen, P.C., 898 Main St., Waldoboro, announce sAttorney Michele G. Hallowell, of Nobleboro,will be joining the firm as an associate attorney as Sept. 16.

Hallowell relocated to Maine after practicing with the firm of Kelley Drye & Warren, LLP, in Washington, D.C. Her practice will focus on fisheries, natural resources, environmental, corporate, real estate and family law.

Hallowell began her legal career as the sole in-house attorney for the Maine Lobstermen’s Association. There she spearheaded the aAssociation’s engagement in complex regulatory issues at the state and federal level, including before the New England Fisheries Management Council and the Maine Legislature. She worked to secure Trade Adjustment Assistance for Farmers and Fishers, which provides technical and financial assistance to Maine lobstermen, and pushed for the required involvement of fishermen during the planning of renewable energy development offshore Maine’s coast.

She continued to represent commercial fishermen at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, and would often advocate on behalf of commercial fishermen before state and federal agencies, legislatures, regional planning bodies, fisheries management councils, courts, and the press on issues ranging from coastal and marine spatial planning, ocean wind energy development, rationalization of fisheries, allocation disputes, bycatch, and gear conflicts. Attorney Hallowell has worked on other maritime issues, ranging from ballast water regulation to shipping. She has been inducted into the Maritime Law Association because of her work.

Hallowell also works extensively in the fields of corporate, real estate, natural resource, and environmental law. She routinely negotiates real estate deals and contracts on behalf of large corporations, small businesses, and individuals.

During law school, she interned for the Honorable Kermit Lipez of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and served as a clerk for the Honorable Joseph H. Field of the State of Maine District Court in West Bath. She graduated from the University of Maine School of Law and Boston College and attended the University of Oxford.
