Broad Bay Church in Waldoboro is offering two fall adult education opportunities for people of all faiths, with or without a church background.

A Bible Study, based on the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis, will include study and discussion of the Hebrew Bible’s account of creation, the fall, original sin, Noah and the flood. Participants might be surprised at what scripture says. Join Rev. Dr. Bob George on Thursday mornings at his home in Jefferson for coffee and conversation. For more information, call George at 549-3708.

Broad Bay’s pastor, Rev. Nancy Duncan, will lead a five-week discussion group based on “Wisdom Jesus,” by Cynthia Bourgeault. In this book, Bourgeault focuses on Jesus as a wisdom teacher — one who leads followers to an inner transformation and a new way of being and thinking in the world. The 20th century brought together research that has expanded scholars’ thinking about Jesus: the recovery of early Christian texts including the Gospel of Thomas, additional knowledge of the times and culture of Jesus, and a reclamation of ancient Christian practices of contemplation. Bourgeault invites her readers to be seekers, not seeking simple answers, but living more fully into the mystery.

The conversation about this book starts Monday, Sept. 23, and continues through Oct. 28. Two sessions will be offered, one at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 6:30 p.m. To register for the class and reserve a copy of the book, contact Duncan at 832-6898 or
