The Friends of Waldoboro Public Library invites the public to attend its September program in their Speaker Series at the library Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.

Pete Salmansohn, better known as "Puffin Pete” will present a slide-talk on the Seabird Restoration Program and how the puffins returned to Maine. His books: “Project Puffin,” “Giving Back To The Earth,” and “Saving Birds:Heroes Around The World” will be featured.

Salmansohn received his master's in science in teaching from the Environmental Studies Department at Antioch/New England and his master's of science in social ecology from Goddard College. For several years he has been instructing adults and children at the Audubon Ecology Camp in Maine and still teaches at the family camp and during special education weeks. As the education coordinator for the Seabird Restoration Program, he assists Sue Schubel in coordinating the school outreach program. Salmansohn also narrates Audubon sea tours aboard commercial boats. In 1998, Pete was named the Maine Environmental Education Association’s Environmental Educator of the Year.

The three books listed above and co-authored with Steve Kress will be available for purchase (cash or checks only, please) with proceeds going to the National Audubon Society. The program is free and open to the public. This is a wonderful educational event for the whole family — all ages are encouraged to attend. The library is located at 958 Main St., Waldoboro.
