Perimeter Gallery will open “Murmuration,” an exhibition featuring a large wall drawing as well as smaller works on paper by Rockland artist Mark Kelly, Thursday, Aug. 29, with a 6 to 8 p.m. reception.

Kelly’s current art practice focuses on drawing with experimental methods or unusual materials. Sometimes abstract, sometimes representational, often rooted in process, his drawings on paper have been created with an array of means including smoke, gun powder, tar, tea, burning matches and fireworks.

Born in Amityville, N.Y., Kelly earned his bachelor of fine arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and is a partner in Belfast’s Åarhus Gallery. Exhibitions include the 18th Annual Drawing Show at the Boston Center for the Arts; “Guerilla One,” Easthampton, Mass. “Art From Intuition,” Northampton Center for the Arts, Northampton, Mass.; “The Crossing of Time and Environment: Micro Installation,” Tainan County, Taiwan; and “First Traces” at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport.

“Murmuration” will run through Oct. 13. Perimeter Gallery is located in Chase’s Daily, 96 Main St. Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday’s from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 338-0555.
