Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings weekly at 7 p.m. in the community room of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1. August’s theme is French Gems.

The Aug. 23 film is "Jules et Jim," a 105-minute movie from 1962. Writers Jules (Oskar Werner) and Jim (Henri Serre) are close friends who fall in love with the same woman, the unpredictable Catherine (Jeanne Moreau), amid the turbulence of World War I Paris. One of director François Truffaut's best-loved films, adapted from the novel by Henri-Pierre Roché. explores a decades-long love triangle that both tests and strengthens the bond between the two men of its title.

Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Light refreshments will be served. The Thomaston Academy building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
