MoJO, the Mondaynite Jazz Orchestra, will perform a free, informal concert Monday, Aug. 26, at 6:15 p.m. in the Camden Amphitheatre, Atlantic Avenue. Concertgoers should bring their own lawn seating.
The Mondaynite Jazz Orchestra is a group of musicians from Midcoast Maine bound together by a passion for big band music and dedicated to playing every possible style from traditional, a la Count Basie and Duke Ellington, to rock, blues and Latin.
MoJO is one of the few 17-piece big bands in Maine. Band members hail from Bath to Belfast and share a common passion for the genre, promote, preserve and enjoy big band music. “While a good part of our library consists of traditional pieces,” said manager Ray Faria, “the brunt of it includes many contemporary arrangements and compositions, some homegrown by Maine composer/arrangers. Swing, blues, Latin, funk, ballads, dance and listening music are all well represented.”
