Sally Long, a lifelong St. George resident, is throwing her annual fundraising birthday party Saturday, Aug. 24, beginning 5 p.m. at the town office on School Street.

Long’s 90th birthday wish is to raise money for the St. George Volunteer Ambulance, and all donations or proceeds will go to the service. The party includes a public supper and live entertainment including a country, gospel and folk music jam.

Featured entertainer will be Birdie Googins, perhaps better know as the Marden’s Lady from her series of commercials. While Maine comedian Karmo Sanders’ character has achieved regional TV celebrity, her background is on stage, where she has worked as an actor, writer and comedian. Sanders holds a master's degree from Boston University as a playwright. Humor is Sanders' stock-in-trade, and her quirky Birdie Googins persona finds it everywhere in the lives of ordinary Mainers.
