Back by popular demand, Tuba Skinny will perform 1920s-era Big Easy jazz at Billy's Tavern, 1 Starr St. behind the downtown business block. Portland-based singer/songwriter Shanna Underwood and her band Wanderlost will open at 7:30 p.m. Tuba Skinny will perform at 9 p.m.

Underwood performs a combination of originals and covers by the likes of Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, The Band, Wanda Jackson and Neil Young using powerful, Bonnie Raitt-style vocals partnered with a Cowboy Junkies sensibility. Her band Wanderlost features Drew Wyman on bass, Devon Colella on cello and Greg Bjork on mandolin.

Hailing from New Orleans, and harking back to the days of jazz and the vibrant blues music of the 1920s and ‘30s, the six-piece Tuba Skinny — which consists of tuba, trombone, cornet, banjo, vocals and washboard — evokes the rich musical history of the city. Since forming in 2009, Tuba Skinny has developed a following thanks to their performances on streets and stages across the globe.
