Classic biplanes of the Owls Head Transportation Museum and the racing fleet of the Penobscot Rendezvous converge on Rockland Harbor Friday, Aug. 16, from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Founded in 2011 and now in its third year, the Penobscot Bay Rendezvous is presented by Wayfarer Marine and Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding, and is intended to highlight the beauty of the bay and the excellence of Maine’s boatbuilding and service industries to both local and visiting sailors and boaters.

The event features three days of sailboat racing and power boat events, a mix of sail and power boats, great opportunities to learn about the marine industry and marine arts in Maine, and three nights of parties for participants and guests.

The Owls Head Transportation Museum aircraft are participating to both welcome the fleet and herald the start of one of the museum’s biggest weekends of the year, the 36th Annual New England Auto Auction on Aug. 17. The 36th Annual New England Auto Auction will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Bidder preview and registration will begin at 7 a.m. on the day of the auction and will extend through the end of the sale.

The public is encouraged to watch the show from the Rockland Breakwater. After the half-hour airshow, the public should stick around to watch the sailboat racing as the start the first day of racing will get underway immediately following the last flyover.
