Seniors, calling themselves the Knit-Wits, knit hats and mittens for head start children and crochet or knit lap robes for nursing home or shut-ins.

The group has been meeting and knitting for the community for more than 15 years, meeting at the Rockland Recreation Center every Wednesday morning.

The annual celebration, held this year on Aug. 7, meets in Spruce Head at the home of Louise Kinney. Lobsters are supplied and cooked by her son, Buzzy Kinney. The ladies bring salads and desserts. Conversations and laughter prevail while working their on-going projects.

Seniors wishing to join in every Wednesday are welcome. Anyone within the community who has left over or unused yarn to contribute can drop it off at the Rockland Community Center front desk.
