Summer Simmer, a fundraiser heavy on the “fun,” is set for Saturday, Aug. 17, at Rock City Cafe, 316 Main St. The brainchild of Coastal Children’s Museum Program Coordinator Megan Rogers and Rock City Café Manager Erica Sanchez, Summer Simmer will run from 6 to 9 p.m.

Partygoers can dance to the sultry sounds of DJ Mark Kelly, try their luck in a great penny social/pick a prize raffle, enjoy drink specials and more, all while directly supporting programming and operations of Rockland’s Coastal Children’s Museum. A party for the grown-ups, there also will be a fun photo booth area with local photographer Jesse Robert Gifford Stuart and information pictures and upcoming projects of the Coastal Children’s Museum. One can meet the board, the staff and the volunteers of this worthwhile organization.

“I wanted to find a way to spread the word about the work we do, the importance of early childhood education and to raise funds all while having a really good time,” said Rogers. “Everything about Rock City Café, down to the daily Facebook posts, has the essence of good, smart, fun, and Erica fills the space with such energy and without a doubt the best laugh in Rockland. It’s the perfect place for this party.”

Sanchez is no stranger to planning festive and fun parties; she with the rest of Hot Pink Flannel have been planning and putting on fantastic parties all over Rockland since 2009. There is no cover charge for this event and party-goers will still be able to order from Rock City’s usual dinner menu.

Raffle tickets will be on sale in advance at the Coastal Children’s Museum for prizes that include original art by Elizabeth O’Haverty and Marianne Swittlinger; a free hypnotherapy session with Thomas Woodman; bags from justKim of Portland; a sitting from Bottega Photography of Rockport; a free children’s party at the Coastal Children’s Museum; handmade children’s crowns; goodies from Hello! Hello! Books; and even cash. So both dance shoes and wallets.
