Illustrator Hazel Mitchell will visit the Coastal Children’s Museum Saturday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. to read from her children’s book “1, 2, 3 … By the Sea” and offer a short demonstration of her illustration techniques. Written by Dianne Moritz, the book shows off Mitchell’s sunny artwork and invites the youngest beach lovers to count their way through a delightful day at the beach. She will sign copies of her books, available for sale at the museum.

Originally from Scarborough, England, Mitchell now lives and works in Maine. While continuing to create both original art and book illustrations, she travels throughout the world visiting schools, bookstore and festivals to share with children insights into the life of an artist as well as her experience that “if you work hard dreams do come true.”

Mitchell’s work will be included in River Tree Arts’ upcoming “Spark!” show of work by Maine’s iconic illustrators. More information about all her books can be found at hazelmitchell.com.

This workshop is included in the regular price of admission, free for museum members. Located at 75 Mechanic St., the Coastal Children’s Museum provides an opportunity for children age 2 to 9 to explore, discover and learn through play. For more information, visit coastalchildrensmuseum.org.
