Harbor Square Gallery, 374 Main St., will open its August show “Fragments,” featuring recent paintings by Joanne Williams, during a 5 to 8 p.m. First Friday reception, Aug. 2.
Williams’ paintings are created on panels with a variety of materials. Venetian plaster and glazes of paint and metallic powders are applied, scraped, lifted and layered in the artist’s abstract exploration of color and texture. Within these complex environments, figures narrate magical journeys of other-worldly times and places.
Williams has received numerous commendations by respected jurors from such institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Yale University School of Art. Her work is in many private and corporate collections across the country.
